Swing implemented this innovative technology for beginner glider like the Mito. First is because natural launching behavior and passive safety are essential for beginners pilots. With only roughly 100-300 grams of extra weight on the wing.

During the front inflation:

1. The front pressure area fills first.

2. A self-stable profile is developed which does not overshoot or lift the pilot.


The canopy inflated front first. The lift force is generated gradually.


During reverse start, the wing does not overshoot but takes off sooner.


In Flight.

1. Maneuverability remains complete, even in extreme turbulence.

2. Nice "pull into thermal" instead of hanging back upon encountering lift.


Overall RAST improves the launching phase even in no wind.


The Rast system creates a quick absorption of energy that makes the recovery softer.

The energy of the collapse dissipated, creating less momentum during the collapse, so the motion induces a slower turn, less dynamic, barely any height loss and just lightly shoot during the recovery phase.

 

This development holds enormous promises. Swing will continue to develop the technology with their next wing design which will be a tandem wing.

 

RAST is designed to:


  • Reduce large surface asymmetric.

  • Avoid front collapse with front rosette.

  • Avoid getting lifted in higher wind launch.

  • Avoid overshooting while reverse launching.

  • Increase control in turbulence.
